Stone Coated Steel Roofing Tiles
- Compatible with principles of Stearn Report on climate change
- Less CO2 emissions in the production process; steel arguably the most recycled product in the world
- Less weight = increase in volumetric efficiency; currently 22% of UK national energy consumption is used by transport. Volumetric efficiency reduces demands on transport & consequently reduces demands on fossil fuels, CO2 emissions & other green house gases
- Compatible with principles of Egan's Rethinking Construction report on improving the efficiency of the construction industry leading to better value for the customer
- Low weight - less supporting structure required
- Low wastage & possibility of failure
- Safer on site - arguably the most serious health risk on any construction site is dust inhalation. The presence of cement and use of angle grinders & mechanical cutters produces dust particles, normally a little greater in size than 2 microns. Particles sized at less than 10 microns can pass through the larynx and penetrate to the deep lung & cause chronic respiratory diseases. Steel tiles are easily cut & shaped with guillotine, tin snips etc. therefore dust creation is negligible.
- Repetitive tasks reduced. For example the number of fixings required to install are far less than traditional materials. On avg. 65m2 sized roof 715 fixings required for our system compared with 1900 for concrete tiles & 3900 for plain clay tiles. 20 trips up a ladder compared with 135 for concrete tiles & 216 for plain clay tiles. Fitted cost is lower £25.50 per m2 vs. £40 per m2 for plain clay tiles & £32 per m2 for slate and concrete interlocking tiles.
